What we’re all about

ABOUT FEAST

Feast began with a couple of foodies sharing stories about their culinary explorations and discoveries. The idea was to cook and bake and taste our way through town to capture the essence of the food landscape where we live.  It has since grown into a project more focused on the enriching experience of sharing food;  its center is family and what we can learn from the breaking of bread.

ABOUT US

Jen (by: Bill)

Jen spent her youth absorbing the influences of living overseas, combining them with a higher education in the finer elements of writing, and juxtaposing those principles with a career as a cheese monger.  The culmination of all of that ended up making her take herself way too seriously.  An anti-technological person (or, semi-luddite, as she calls herself), she got in touch with her hypocritical side and started this blog with her friend Julia in January of 2010.  As life expanded to working in the culinary archives at the University of Michigan, planting vegetables on a nearby farm, and finally, becoming a mom, she decided to take me up on my offer to help out with the blog. Currently she is trying to find balance between taking care of our son, writing, cooking, making sure she gets a chance to shower every day, and dealing with all the craziness and drama I bring to her life.  Jen is curious, inquisitive, and hungry for life. I’m hungry, too, and so we feast together.

Bill (by: Jen)

Bill is a photographer, native Michigander, and foodie.  He is focused, loud, and fiercely passionate, with the heart of an artichoke and the temperament of a roaring gas grill.  His day job requires doctoral knowledge of the masticatory system (which makes him an excellent bone chewer, though, professionally, he doesn’t advise it); by night he experiments with slow-cooked recipes to be enjoyed for the next day’s dinner.  An autodidact, he reads books cover to cover in pursuit of complete understanding of his latest obsession (some recent obsessions include: sandwiches, grilling, flash photography).  His favorite foods:  Pulled pork, fruit pies, and cottage cheese.  Bill’s enthusiasm for the endless subject of food will be a great asset to Feast, as his photographs already are.  I’m super excited to team up with my husband and share our foodie adventures!

Being Bill’s mother-in-law has been an adventure! He wants to take over my Kitchen when he is here (at least one or two days) so I’ve had to learn to let go of my corner of the house and sometimes disappear. Voila! Out comes a great recipe, questions about what we have on hand and perhaps a little improv, and then the masterpiece happens (48 pots and pans later!!) We love to see what will be served and can’t wait for next weekend. Thanks Jen and Bill, Love, MOM

I might use 48 pots, but I try to not make too big of a mess :)
